Christmas
Songbook
Many conductors of young choirs already give their children
actions and movements to bring their performances to life. Having watched
inspiring performances by the Willingdon Community School Signing Choir in
Eastbourne (signing conductor Lynn Langlands), we immediately recognised the value of incorporating some BSL
signing into the routines of any choir, whether or not its members have hearing
difficulties.
All these British Sign Language illustrations by
David Hodgson have been
used by kind permission of Beverley School For Deaf Children.
'Sign Master'. A full compendium of BSL signs, is available in CD-rom format
from
Forest Books, tel. +44 (0)1594 833858. www.forestbooks.com
Communication Link 3rd Edition and other Beverley
School
publications are also available from The Forest Bookshop.

When using these illustrations to help you sign songs, or
parts of songs, you may wish to interpret them fairly freely in order to achieve
an expressive result which suits the mood and style of the music. Whether using them with hearing or non-hearing children, attention to the beat
in your use of the signs is obviously very important, and will help to keep a
group of performers well synchronised.
These samples are free for you
to print out for your own use.
